LeFusil - I've generally had a bias against pads of any kind, admittedly a might irrational at times.

I've got to say, that picture of yours on the hammergun - fit, color, texture - just smashed that prejudice to bits! That is truly the first pad I think I've ever seen that enhances what looks to be an already beautiful gun. Just Gorgeous!

Whew! Feels good to blast that baggage out of my pumkin head.

[q[size:11pt]uote=Joe Wood]Bill, the site also acts screwy to me.
Hello Bill and Joe, Dewey's website is currently working good for me on my son's computer in Duffield, VA.

This is a strange what, epiphany? revelation? conversion? I'm experiencing here.

My previously etched-in-stone negative opinion regarding pads is blowing up in my face. First LeFusil's, beauty, now Dewey's....

My sciatica prevents me from jumping up and down and yelling HALLELUJAH! but I am feeling my knees starting to bend, whether from weakness or reverence I cannot yet say.

Ok, I'll play show-n-tell. Here's one that I did on a Gibbs rifle a couple of years ago.

CJO - Yet another. You've done a great job!

The thing that hooks me on yours is that it is NOT a huge smack-on blob. It's thin and svelte, the ends of the pad perfectly alligned and combined with the beautiful bend you've achieved to the profile makes it look like an organic extension from the gorgeous wood butt.

OK, Mr Mann, that's it! I'm tongue-tied and cannot get enough accolades out of my born-again, butt-pad converted brain.

Let's just say that this example of your workmanship has contributed to the clean sweep of this pictorial tutorial.

I have emerged a changed man. Many Thanks to all.

Might I ask a follow up alternative question? For a time, there was a well regarded Canadian gunsmith that did stock extensions in a hard rubber (sourced in Germany, I believe?) that looked really nice. The rubber was sufficiently hard to provide no flex and could be properly checkered on the butt as well.

Does anyone know of a competent gunsmith in the States that can provide similar stock extensions where a greater than 1.5" increase in length is required? I've seen plenty of wood extensions and unless meticulously stained, painted and finished to blend with the original wood, they tend to look pretty terrible.

Thanks for your suggestions.
