I recently acquired an insert made by Krieghoff about 40 years ago. Unlike the Keppler Inserts I am familiar with this one is only about 15" long and has no centering cone on the end of the 22 Mag rifle barrel. It has a key and adjusting screw that moves a relatively large pressure pad up and down on a threaded screw so I think I have figured out how this roughly works. If not properly adjusted the action does not want to close with the insert in place. The proper relief slot is cut in the right 12 bore extractor to accommodate and align the extractor on the insert. There is also three smaller screws and pressure pads on the insert that look very much like they are intended to adjust the POI for the insert. While this is all good and well, I am still having trouble understanding how the barrel stays properly centered in the bore when there is no bore diameter bushing on the end of the barrel to locate it accurately in the bore. I am used to the types of insert Krieghoff and Keppler currently produce and these are of barrel length with one or sometimes two or three locating bushings on them, depending on caliber. I have attached the link to Keppler that illustrates the modern types of inserts.

The insert I just got looks just like the small one in the picture with the Krieghoff drilling below. Any and all info on how to properly install and align this insert would be greatly appreciated. I would particularly like to know if there is in fact a centering cone required and it is just missing from the picture. Also, if anyone have a copy of the operating instructions they could scan and send this would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for posting that. That is far more detailed than the one I got from Krieghoff as this one covers the actual installation of the insert, rather than the user guide I recieved. Thanks for taking the time to post this.

Thanks for the invite, I think I will as I have been really enjoying reading the info on here. Being left handed I have always looked for alternative guns that work well from the left side.

The result of that, is I am a longterm fan of Drillings, Combis, O/Us and SXS rifles and shotguns. I never knew this site existed, and would never of found it if I hadn't gone loooking for Krieghoff on the internet. Aside from this Krieghoff inssert, which actually resides in a Simson-Suhl, built in 1979, 12x12 over 7x57R drilling, none of my guns are Krieghoffs.

You are in good company here. What guns do collect / prefer? American, English, etc?
