IMHO, Bill Grill has it right. Competitive shooters are a different animal from hunters. Beavertail fore ends, vent ribs and recoil pads are of value to the person who is seriously into breaking clays (live birds too). The gun, to a competition shooter is a tool, not a love object. Shoot a 100 or 200 bird race and then let's discuss the merits of BTFEs and vent ribs.

Bingo Walt.
It's usually evident on here who shoots the most, and who has the widest variety of shooting experience.

I do- A 2E 12 gauge LC Smith- refitted at Fulton in 1927 with a set of 32" Nitro steel barrels with reinforcing yoke and Simmonds (Gifford) designed raised ventilated rib- 3" chambers - but NOT a longrange-- choked .040" in each tube- I love it- DT, EJ, 8 lbs. Twice the gun my old beat-up Fox 12 HE Magnum was at 10 lbs. (M-1 Garand weight class) great ejectors-death on tower birds, box pigeons and both turkeys and waterfowls too-The rest of my Smiths have the std. file cut rib, and I like them very much also- but this 2E- it is my "Bo-Whooper" if I dare borrow a page from ther Nash Buckingham playbook--

I have a 12 ga. Winchester Model 23 SxS that came from the factory with a venilated rib. I've been happy with this shotgun for 20+ years.
It was also one of the first SxS's to come with choke tubes.

I say its Aliens! You clearly need to work on your reading skills. Practice a while and then have another go at my post. You may learn something. HTH have a day Dr.WtS
