I fell a couple of times last week ,it's hell on a gun. Rock put small bent in barrel on outside. Used it 3 times total 9 shots. Cleaning gun to go out today and the barrel looks like there is a crack in the barrel not a dent on the inside. Is it possible to crack a barrel or if it's chrome lined could the chrome be cracking or flaking. I'm wondering who I could send it to,to check. I did't believe barrels were made of hardden steel? Anyone have opinion?

Kirk Merrington in TX is not only relatively near to you, but also a highly-respected, British-trained barrel specialist. Other excellent 'smiths could help you but you won't do better than Kirk.

I wouldn't shoot a gun with any significant dent visible on the inside of the bore.

Ray,
While it's not likely that it's cracked, it could be possible. Chrome lining is extremely thin and would not likely crack or peel. Embrittlement from the chrome process shouldn't be an issue either. I'm guessing it's not cracked. I'd recommend you borescope it before having the dent removed. When the dent is removed, a crack would close up and you may not find it. Find someone with a borescope, usually riflesmiths use them. I'm guessing there's debris in there making it looked cracked. But you need to know for sure.

Thank you for your help. The dent isn't significant , I'm not going to use it without it being repaired. I'll admit I was tempted to, it's a cheap sxs that keeps going.
