Serious collectors will pay top prices for unbutchered guns.....amazing how much a minty box and papers increases the value of an old gun.....but they are always opened and handled......I watched a mint 1873 BOXED Winchester go for huge dollars......

If the gun is factory mint and pre WWII, serious collectors at the big shows will buy it fast.......

I don't see how the gun posted on gunsinternational was purchased originally without the original seller or buyer opening the box to inspect the gun.....that part seems a little fishy to me, even in the 30's and 40's when people were more honest.....?.....

Most of the top sellers in GI are listed as being a "platinum seller" but this one is NOT rated. That raises a "red flag" here- do the Godfather routine as with Tommy Dorsey- Put $4K on the table and a gun to his head- have him open the box for you- if it is the real deal-A-OK, but it not (and that M62 better be a clean as a Nun's wimpole on Friday) then- Bada Bing- Bada Boom--

Is it just me or has anyone else noted that RWTF can't seem to separate real life from a Mario Puzo novel lately.

Wouldn't you think that any potential buyer would insist on seeing the gun inside the box?

Who in their right mind would shell out large money to someone only to hearthe vendor's pitch: sssshhhhh - secret gun in this box!No, you can't see it, it's a secret, silly! No, I haven't seen it either, but c'mon, it's gotta be GREAT!

What FLL dealer can transfer it anyway?

You need to see the gun to verify the serial number.

Assuming these are serial numbered...

Even if they aren't, the FLL would need to verify just what was transferred.

ATF would pounce otherwise.

Winchester never built anything that wasn't serial numbered, from the Henry Rifle on......including pistols and cannons..........

Winchester built 158,645 model 62's from the beginning of production in 1932 to the end of production in 1943............all serial numbered.............

Yes, he is.

This is a recognized exception to the rule of uncertainty.

I saw a pair of Colt SAA revolvers (nickel plated) once that were advertised as "never turned," lest the pawl score the cylinder. That makes me really sad for some reason. Imagine those beautiful Colts never being shucked out of a holster (with blinding speed) and slip hammered at an imaginary desperado.

far as I know, they built a crapload of Win 67's without serial numbers for starters.

According to the remaining records somewhat over 383,000 models of 67 and 67-A were made. These models were not serial numbered except for export sales.

You're right, Winchester did not waste the extra step on these 1930's designed five/ten dollar guns......
