I have an early Lefever in which the stock head is oil soaked. The stock looked black from the stock head back to the end of the grip cap, turns out there was a crack in the head as well. I just finished soaking the stock in acetone for a week, flipping it over every 8-12 hours. Some of the black has lifted but the wood is still pretty dark compared to the rest of the butt. Do you think I should give it more of an acetone soak? I have not used the denatured alcohol yet. What does the denatured alcohol soak do? I thought the acetone is what removes the oil.
