The guinea was originally a small gold coin , First minted by Charles II in 1668, it continued to be minted until 1813. Its value varied from 20 to 30 shillings until the recoining of sterling which established the gold standard of 21 shillings to a Guinea. The name of the coin is from the Africa Company who supplied the gold from that country. David
