LC-

I was in Highmore - a little west - hunting with friends on their land.

We saw lots of birds in the ditches in the evenings during cocktail time.

There was a lot of water there, too. I've never seen it so wet.

Jerry,

I'm heading out tonight for 10 days of duck hunting in the Watertown area. Talked to my huntin' buddy in Arlington and he says:

1. About 80% of the corn is out in his area.
2. Don't bother to buy an upland pheasant license, the
hunting is pretty slim around there.

The Springer is staying home and I'll put another couple dozen decoys where the dog box used to be. Hope you do well.

It's my observation that in the southeastern area, numbers have declined over the last 20 yrs and have been particularly low in the last few years.

Cobbhead,

For what its worth, with all the water around, saw lots and lots of ducks.
Good luck.

I'm in Kimball now. Today was day 1 of an annual 3 day hunt we do here. Private land. 3 of us and my brittany. Limits in about 3 hours. Wind hurt us more than the lack of birds although there are way fewer than last year. With only 3 of us and one dog, we avoid the big food plots and corn/milo fields and concentrate on smaller heavier cover areas. Hunted a couple places the same as last year. Last year we saw 100 birds get up, this year maybe 25. Still good hunting but you want to hit the birds that present themselves. Long day if you do much missing...

Glad to hear you got some good hunting in. While it's always a treat to see lots of birds, I enjoy it at least as well, if not more, when I hunt harder to get my limit.

I just got back from 10 days in east central SoDak(James River) yesterday. Flooding washed away lots of regular cover earlier. Crops 90% harvested. I hunt behind my dogs(2 Setters, wirehair, FrBrit & Lab). Don't do the drive/blocker thing. Plenty of birds each day for three of us even though the total numbers were down, still great hunting.
