Steven, I really waffled on whether or not to stain this piece of wood. I actually tried several different colors on some scrap pieces, and really wasn't satisfied with any of them...so I just left it as Ma Nature made it. It's one or the other of the varieties of California English walnut, and worked and finished nicely.
I like the Winchester low walls as well. I'm rust blueing the barrel for one in .25 WCF right now, and hope to have it all completed in a few days. I think it'll be a pretty snazzy little rifle when it's all done.
