Beautiful work! That's the kind of restoration we like to see -clean and subtle. Enjoy it!

I have one of those. Check out the small differences between the guns. The floor plate is shaped differently and is engraved with "Patent Block Safety" instead of your "Patent Safety". I don't have photo of the fore end, but my # 2 is located below the circle of the tip.
Toby Barclay, Heritage Guns UK, restored mine. I think he knows who has the Lancaster records and may chime in later.
Mine was made 1894, SN 07408 #2 of a pair. No idea where 1 is.

Joe,
Beautiful gun. Truth be known...when you posted your pics of your hunt in Scotland...I was hoping to see pictures of you using your Lancaster ;-).

Yes, there are some very subtle differences in our guns. I'll try to point out a couple more.

The engraving pattern is eerily similar :-)

The reason your floor plate is shaped differently is becasue the "Patent Block Safety" is actually mounted on the floor plate, that is why there are three visible pin heads on your gun, the block safety on my gun is actually mounted inside the action, same mechanism, just mounted in a different spot.
Your gun does not have drop points, mine does. This is odd because most all of the Lancaster catalogs I've seen, when picturing this particular model, all of the examples have drop points.
The top straps of our guns are differenent too, while yours guns top strap just as long as my guns strap, my guns top strap is a bit more sculpted, kind of in the fashion of early hammer guns.

Our guns only being 417 guns apart, these differences are pretty interesting to say the least.

Do you have any pictures of the action knuckle? I would like to see what type of cocking dogs your gun has. My gun has the later style cocking dogs that H.A.A Thorn patented as a slight improvement over F. Beeselys original design.

Thanks for posting pictures of your gun, its very nice! These Lancasters are something special indeed.

And for what its worth....Ronald Wharton and his girlfriend Margarita are the owners of the Lancaster records. I paid 35 pounds for a letter which I have yet to receive...been waiting for over a year now, doubt I'll ever see the letter. I hope my 35 pounds bought them both a nice dinner.

Dustin
