Bad engraving can ruin even the best quality gun. Great engraving may improve a gun but not that much too me. Some of the early engraving would be better off removed with a file. Laughing dogs, flying turnips and bird with barbie doll proportions are just a real turn off. Bulino engraving and engraving that looks like a photo does not turn me on either. Less is more if done well and more is just a waste if not done well. More guns have been ruined by bad engraving than anything other that rust or a torch.

In the latest issue of the DGJ, there is a article by Walt Synder, great article about a fine exmaple of an Ithaca Crass. Beautiful engraving on the sides, top, but not so nice on the bottom. It has scroll engraving around the center showing a rabbit running and a cartoon like dog looking at it, with things that look like Pterodactyls flying.

Sorry, but I'm sure others will agree

Engraving is art and therefor very subjective, there is something out there for everyone. What I like my not appeal to others and that's just fine.

The floorplate is from a rifle made for L.C. Smith's son Burns Lyman Smith.

Too Funny Clif W!! grin

Michael: That sure as hell isn't Rosie!! whistle

I've got some examples in an Italian engraving book that would probably be considered porno if I posted them here!

The one on the left looks like a chimp with a pigs head.
