Bought a new Browning Citori 20ga, 26" for quail hunting. Has a matte blue finish on receiver (plain) and barrels and a dark satin or dull looking stock and forend. My problem is that i droped it comming out of the store and chipped a 2" long and 3/4" deep peice out of the stock and broke the butplate. I have repaired the stock and refitted a new buttplate. I have done this before on old stocks using glassbedding and brass screws and refinished. This stock i cant seem to get a match and i am trying to blend the finish. Can anyone tell me how to obtain this dark finish and what it is on these new Brownings. Satin, matte, gloss what.
Thanks
Tommy

Browning finishes are tough to match, as are most factory finishes. This product, in the "pre-64" tint, will get you the color you need:

Getting the final finish will probably be best achieved with a satin poly spray, which is REAL tricky. Good luck...

midwestgunworks.com might be able to help. They used to work for Browning, I believe and if needed, could probably get you a new wood set.

I would try some dark soft wax, like the Brits use on repairing antique furniture.

HEY and thanks everyone. And yes it hurt. First new gun since 1973. Been saving up for a long time so yea. The repair was really easy and covering meeting lines was simple as i have repaired many old stocks and have gotten pretty good at it. I will buy a broken stock when i can find them cheap or for free and then figure out how to repair that kind of damage. I have done 15 so far some broken in half or split doubles with ears (part at receiver) broken off. It has been fun learning. I am just having a problem with this finish. But i again thank all of you and will try these.

A good reminder to bring new guns home in their shipping carton. Sorry for your loss.

Strip off the whole stock and refinish .May sound extreem but in the long run you will get a more satisfactory result . Is it insured? If so get a new stock.

To drop a new gun on the way out of the shop must really suck,n a little embarrassing to , I bet.If you did as Gunman suggests you could tweak the colour a bit with judiciously applied stain, if it was a bit light for your taste.
Hope it turn out welleither way mate.
You could also get that guy who "enhances" grain to do his thing on it too , he posts here...Mark Larson is his name,I think....do great stuff
and up with outrageous wood.
Looks like he charges 400 , that includes stripping & refinishing both stock n forend www.marklarsongunart.com www.marklarsongunart.com[/url]
