A friend has offered to sell me his T.Page Wood best grade sidelock 12GA SXS. It was sleeved by Westley Richards in the 1980s and has 2-3/4" chambers and 1-1/4 ounce proofs. I had guessed at its value some time ago, and he has offered to sell it to me at the upper end of my guess. I won't bias you with that number. No pictures, but the bluing is near 100%, CC probably 50%, wood finish 85%, with one tiny chip out of the edge of the fore end. The rose & scroll engraving is as good as I've seen on the few Purdeys I have examined close up. The action has carved fences, very nice as well. Ejectors, of course. Straight grip stock with highly figured, correctly grained wood. I don't know much about this maker but I know a good gun when I see it. What is the probable current market value?

Pictures are a must.
As far as a sleeved gun goes it could be worth anywhere between 3 and 6 thousand.

Stocked to the fences? Does the lump come through the action? I hate to say it, but I agree with J0e, need pics and he is as close you can get without them as to price.

I have a T. Page Wood hammer gun with a Jones underlever and heavy proofed Krupp barrels. A very stout gun. I read that Page Wood specialized in heavy proofed guns for waterfowling and pigeon shooting.

Some Westley Richards sleeved guns were very poorly done. Those would bring much less than a gun with good sleeving.

That's another reason why some good pictures are needed to appraise this gun. As an aside: I am a full member of the International Society of Appraisers and I would not apraise a gun with this description/alteration without a hands on examination. Jim

Vol 423 I wanted to send you some pictures from a T.Page Wood sidelock that is sold at Southams in march this yaer but your E-Mail adress in your profile isen't good. If you post a good e-mail adress in the topic I can send pictures. I never posted pictures on the forum myself. I forgot the T.Page wood sidelock had original barrels, was not stocked to the fences and there was a chip at the right upper horn, had nice engraveing and was sold fro 360 Marc

I borrowed the shotgun from the owner to try it out. Pictures are at this link: http://s396.photobucket.com/albums/pp48/Vol423/T%20Page%20Wood%20shotgun/The gun weighs 6 lb, 11 0z. Chokes are IC an dMod on a choke gauge, but given the .719 bores, chokes would be about .010 tighter than the gauge shows. Barrels are 26 inches.
