Anyone have a set of plans on building a checkering cradle? I have seen the pictures on another thread but would love to have a set of plans. Thanks

Gerry, i built my cradle using 2 by 4 and 4 by 4 in 60s and it has never failed me. I got the plans to make it from checkering pattern kit sold by Brownells. Stan Traville or ? close to that! I believe they still sell them. of course there are fancier metal ones ,but this one fills the bill for me! Bobby

Gerry,
I tried to send you a PM. Didn't seem to go anywhere. E-mail me direct and we'll talk about the cradle.

The finest checkering cradle around is one designed by Frank DeHass and detailed in The American Rifleman, Jan. 1975, p33.

It is infinitely adjustable, very sturdy, simple to build, and low cost. The entire thing is made from threaded schedule 40 pipe, pipe fittings and some bolts and nuts found at your nearest hardware store. You do need to be able to cut and drill the pipe and braze or solder some simple joints. You can checker pistol grips all the way to a mannlicher stock because of the range of adjustments. Try it you, will definitely like it.

For those that want an inexpensive one that needs very little effort to put together see:

I do not own one and do not know if it is any good.

Gary, I have the magazine, but no way to get it on-line. PM your address or fax# and I will get a copy to you.

Sorry about digging up an old thread but I'd certainly like to get a copy of that magazine as well.

Thanks,
