I bought a brand new Triumph Trident Motorcycle in 1973. My Dad said it was the safest motorcycle ever built because for every day I rode it I worked on it for five days.
Best,
Mike
I am glad to be here.

I owned a 74 series III 110 for 3 years while living in Yorkshire. Fortunately I never experienced any electrical problems. But, for a small 4 cyl it drank a lot of petrol. I made frequent trips from Harrogate to Aviemore for shooting and visiting friends/family so I had 2 under seat tanks added so I could use the cheap gas on base as long as possible. Wasn't fast or warm but it never quit on me in the 3 years.

OLD cartoon that made the rounds in the aerospace commuity, back in the day..Visualize: Missle on launch pad, crew in lying down position ready for blast off. Looks of stark terror on their faces, reading on the instrument panel "Electrics by Lucas"

You guys are missing the whole point. If you have any Land Rover product and especially if it has Lucas electrics you will never be short of company. Mainly Garage Technicians or Service Receptionists.

"You know why the Brits drink warm beer.......?".....No why, ..?...."Because Lucas makes the refrigerators"...... On the serious side, Had a 1957 Austin Healy 100 Six (before they called it the 3000) when I was in the Navy......with dual SU oil sump carbs to keep synchronized....always did my own work on it and liked the car a lot, it ran very good....even with the slave cylinders on the clutch and the electric O/D.....especially liked the factory exhaust system and the banjo manual telescoping steering wheel......

My experience with british sports cars was happy, I loved them on the days they ran and on the days I sold them. Ironically the FIATs I replaced them with proved to be both more reliable and cheaper to run. I still own two Spiders (his and hers) as well as a Porsche from my father. The car I owned and curse myself for letting go was a 1967 Willies with three on the column, I wish I had kept it as the body was great and the flat four ran well, it is in the same class as he smaller rovers

Daryl, I believe most of us would prefer a high condition Bentley Shooting Brake to a first generation Land Rover. Bill - Good news for you. You may be back in business. Bentley is thinking about bringing back the Shooting Brake. Of course, its really a german car now, so some of charming English driving (and breaking down) experience will be missing. http://www.motortrend.com/future/spied_vehicles/112_0212_bentley_shooting_brake_w12/

Best,
Mike Those Triumphs were beauties though. There was a Triumph & BSA dealer a couple of miles up the road from where I lived as a teenager (late 60s), and going into the showroom was like entering a magic kingdom.

An interesting observation, I had the motorcycles and the TR3 while I was going to college at SIU in Carbondale. This was back in the late 60's and parts were difficult to find in that part of the state. I was able to my own mechanical work, but I did get to know the local machinists very well during that period. Steve

Look at these babies. Today's range rovers are too sissy to be good shooting cars. You wouldn't have seen one of these getting pulled out of the mud at this year's Vintage Cup. http://www.landroverranch.com/forsale.html
