my serial num is 239xx built 1904, Juans is 769xx built 1938
approx production of 1200 per year. Yours is in the middle of ours putting yours about early 1920's

Stallones - very interesting piece, I have never herad of a 24 Ga. Ideal.

76930 is dated 1938, but the grade 328 only showed up in 1950 per my records...
The numbering was restarted in 1946, so it's probably a 1950 gun.
The grade 328 is about equivalent to grade 6. The 3XX grades started in mid 1931.
Yours is quite nice.

The standard gauges were 12,16,20 and 24.

I don't know of any 3A, but 3R is common. R stands for reinforced.

Would appreciate your source of data. I found a book by J-C Mournetas (Le Fusil de Chasse Idéal) that appears to be very complete. He also has another, "LES FUSILS DE CHASSE DE REGIS DARNE" that sounds interesting and could probably shed some light on my Halifax.

The Mournetas Ideal book is a good reference indeed assuming that you can decipher the French, along with the many Manufacture catalogs that are available. I don't have his book on Darne but have the Robust one.

The one I had, the safety did indeed work in reverse from what we consider "standard". Forward on safe, back off safe. Dustin, I noticed that the Darne you used to own (which I saw at Cabela's in La Vista) also worked in reverse.

I hope all is well south of the border. Jeff Gournet had dated your gun at 1938' ofcourse that does not mean he is correct. Larry I have been shooting spot on this year with you old 16ga Francotte o/u (sorry guys) it has been my best season in a few years.

I'll try to get my hands on Monsieur Mournetas's books and also maybe some re-editions
of old Manufrance catalogues. Fortunately French is not a problem.

Jeff, all is well down here. Middle of summer with weather appropriate for stock
refinishing (30ºC and 30% humidity during the day, but 15º at night). I have to
"water" my cigars frequently though.
