I have been lucky with guns on the US auction sites and only have been burned once, on a 16ga hammergun. That said it has always been a buyer beware world. If you can't afford to write off the price of the purchase don't make the buy. If you buy enough guns you will get burned eventually. I have seen the Brits at work in Iraq and Afghanistan and they can be captivating. You don't even know you pocket is empty. They make darling stuff, but I never forget my grandfather's people had to run them out of their country. I enjoy their guns, their jackets, and their whiskey (well scotland's anyway) But I never forget in matters of the marketplace "BEWARE"
