I have a 12 ga Simson 35E/70, proofed 10/79, boxlock with ejectors. Recently, the right hammer spring broke. My smith says he's having a tough time finding the part - it's been sitting in the shop a month already. It's essentially the same gun as a pre-reunification Merkel 47E.

Does anyone have any such springs or know of where they can be found? And I'd probably go for the pair, seeing as how Murphy (if he's anywhere near on his game) would require the left one to break as soon as I got the gun back from having the right one fixed.

Please post here or PM me in the background.

Thanks!

I would think that anyone calling themselves a gunsmith could make a spring.

I'd just as soon leave the case coloring dispute aside and keep the focus on a spring, though for a spring I could trade Ed a quart can of calcium carbide to fuel that torch. wink

As it is, I'd rather replace the part than go to the trouble of making one. Making one is my last resort.

Depending on how this turns out I'll render an opinion on the smith or not.

Ed - like I said above, I'd rather replace the part with another part than go to the trouble of making one. I'm really grateful for your offer but I want to first give the smith where the gun currently is a chance to do the work. I'm well aware that parts for German guns don't grow on trees, so I'm trying to help the guys. If it doesn't pan out with this smith, I may take you up on your offer. And I may have some choice words about this smith, too. But that's for another day.

Lebensretter!

I'll have to go over to the smith and that's an hour drive. I may be able to get them to do the photography. If I have to take dimensions, which are the critical ones you'll need?
