I think I solved the problem of not putting my nicer guns (notice I didn't say collector) in harms way. I simple have at least two of all of my favorite guns. The really nice ones go to the clays and skeet range for their exercise the ones in lesser condition go anywhere the birds are, except Chukar hunting, cause I already have my quota of scars and I'm too old for that. But I do enjoy the mountain and plains grouse hunting.

I've learned the hard way to always carry my gun to the outboard side when side-hilling, and I put a neoprene stock guard on my guns too. I usually do more damage to my guns scratching them with items from my vest than I do anything else.

I wouldn't worry too much about dropping a Husky

A vitrine is one of those finely-wrought display cases, mostly glass held in place with fine woods and ormulu. Often a curved glass front, just because and just because it's more expensive that way. An object d'vitrine is, obviously, one of those things that gets put in a glass case to be looked at and not touched.

JOe - this is not an ordinary Husky. Mark's posted a lot of pics of it and it's really quite nice - nicely figured Damascus barrels, good engraving and strikingly figured wood. I've never hunted chukar but, from what I know about it involving clambering across talus slopes, I wouldn't take it there. But that's me. YMMV

buzz, I feel your concern.
I was on a terrific quail hunt bin Texas a couple of years ago with a quality SxS. There was a neophyte amongst us. Every time the Quail rigged truck would stop, he would jump out and swipe his borrowed gun out of its holding place and just miss the holster that mine was in. By the end of the two days, his borrowed gun had several deep scratches in it. Luckily, my gun survived with no real damage.
I didn't really care if I scratched it up, but I didn't want someone else to do it.

What a predicament. Reminds me of a friend's lament about not having time to hunt because it got in the way of his fishing.

I knew a duck guide on the Mississippi. A client was in the blind with him and asked that the guide hold his gun while he ran back to the car for something. This guide had never held a sxs before. He noted the maker. Later he went to a small local dealer asked, "Have you ever heard of a Dutch gun company?" The dealer was curious and asked for more info. The gun was part of a matched set from Holland & Holland. The client had them custom made.

I would shoot and not worry about it (not too much, anyway).

While it's a Purdey, it can be replaced.
