Half of the fun is having my hunting partners ogle my sxs's when all they have are dumpy looking pumps and automatics. Another thing that is fun is when I cross a fence--I unload my 10 bore Remington and hand it to my partner. He always comments on how heavy the beast is.

Taking a nice gun chukar hunting is a bit different that going after pheasant or quail. That is the one place I only take disposable guns. It is also the only game I've hunted where I frequently fall down in the rocks and drop my gun. When I do carry a favorite weapon after chukar I sure watch my footing and avoid areas I would usually attempt to cross.

You're supposed to throw your body between the gun and the ground. A little flesh will heal itself, a gun needs work to heal.

What's the gun?

As for theft, is it insured?

hey that reminds me of when i went deer hunting up in maine.the guy that went with me looked like he walked out of the ll bean catalog!everything i had aquired in twenty plus yrs he bought brand new to take.gun coat all his clothing.he fell on some leaf covered rocks and scratched his gun,upon seeing me he promptly started b---tching how he was gonna have to refinish the gun.the guide had a browing blr that looked liked he dragged it down a logging road,asked the kid if he bought it to use or to look at.?he said you didnt marry a virgin an plan on keeping her that way did you?

I was afraid someone would ask this sort of question. Initially I did not state make and model because I don't think that is all that important and what constitutes a 'collector' to one individual may not be that to another. Since you asked I will tell you. This gun is an insured 1986 Purdey Hammerless Bar Action Sidelock Ejector in original and almost as new condition. I am a serious hunter and handle bird dogs a lot and I know at the end of the 2nd season this gun will nowhere even begin to resemble as new condition. I have come to the conclusion this gun is just too nice for me to drag around in the field and besides most of my hunting buddies don't have a Purdey and never will (one has a Holland though). I don't want my friends to think I'm stuck up and have a little P_ter and that's why I need a Purdey. HaHa. So, I hope that makes some sense as to my reluctance to hunt with this fine gun.

Good old Gough Thomas had it summed up in a nutshell in one of the chapters in Gun Book....the worry of bringing a fine gun into the field.His lovely old school english is sweet to read....

Be he used to hunt full time with his lovely Atkin, & that was surely a damn nice gun.
I don't hunt much, just clays.
Must be a hard decision,especially if you know its going to get scratched up
