Many years ago, I was informed that one of the ways that "poor people: took deer with shot guns was in two methods.
One method was to score a shotgun shell almost the entire way through the hull in front of the case head with a knife. Upon firing, the hull would tear apart and the score line an become a solid projectile with the wads,shot and hull acting as a solid projectile! Thus it was legal to us as a deer gun firing a single projectile!
The other way was insert a broad head arrow into the barrel of the shotgun and fire the arrow via a common shot shell!
Now these "good old boys" still claim that this is what they did to take deer when they ere young! It was a common practice.
In any case, if it is indeed true, then it proves that the Lord protects fools! Lol
