Hi guys, Mike, my mate and grande fromage checkerer told me I had been invited to Westley Richards for a tour for the work I'd put into the "savethebirminghamgunquarter.co.uk" campaign. I was touched. Finally I went there today, I thought I'd better get on with it for obvious reasons but mostly because I hope to start chemo next week.

They were wonderful hosts and it was a real pleasure being shown around and meeting so many marvellous craftsmen and artists. They have a wonderful company with a super culture. The photos below are taken from the tour. Chris, in the photo with me on the right below, showed myself and Mike around. Mike knew most of them.

Me (left and Chris) in front of the biggest pair of elephant tusks I have ever seen!

I hope they don't mind me posting my experience which was truly very positive. It was so good do see apprenticeships being taken seriously. SUPERB.

They showed me a selection of guns in the white, half finished and nearly finished. The engraving on the guns I saw was amazing.

On leaving I bumped into and was introduced to Simon Clode who is the current owner/MD for the company. A lovely chap and we talked about the gun qaurter campaign and our success with it. Very nice people all round!

Finally. I was invited to watch a .470 and .500 calibre rifle being test. I cannot state how much noise, recoil and shockwave was created...it was truly stunning...my hair (what little there is of it) blew in the wind from the muzzle shock coming back down that hollow shooting range...goodness me...

Sorry you have to go to my blog to see this!

Good on ya Tony, that's quite a tour. A special priviledge for a special person. Keep us posted on how the chemo goes. Mine was not terrible, not what I would call fun by any stretch, but not terrible.

Cool. How many gunmakers do they have there?

I saw a brand new WR .410 a few months ago. Real nice gun.

Tony:
And comments on the gent with the two lions pictured above? This doesn't look like Africa to me.
I think it's great to see a business devoted to such hand workmanship still operating in these times.
BTW: Keep up your good spirits!!
Jim
