Craig,

The wall thickness sounds ok from what you say. Sounds like a shooter. Nice looking gun.

Craig, I traded one off last fall just like that. I shot mine with no problems with handloads in the psi range you suggest. Mine may have had thicker walls, can't remember, but it was a very heavy gun. Had 32" barrels and weighed over 10 lbs. I loaded IMR 7625, but never used them in very cold weather.

Craig I have a Syracuse Quality 2 first year of production gun that is the spitting image of your gun. I cleaned up some pitting that initially looked like craters but finished our nicely in extra heavy barrels (this gun weighs 10 pounds 5 ounces and has breech and barrel dimensions to accommodate conversion to 8 gauge). If you are interested PM me I have a nice ounce and a quarter load that Tom Armbrust tested at an average of 4866 psi. Only drawback to this load is that it uses SOLO 1250 which may be hard to come by.

That would be a lot of fun to hunt with. My brother has a Parker 10 bore that he is patterning for waterfowl this fall. If the bores are bright and the stock good, shoot it. Have fun and enjoy what they built for the day.

Craig, very nice gun!

I have one that is similar but a bit plainer for some reason? Less engraving, plain wood and round knob, not capped.

My wall thickness measures nearly the same as yours and has also been honed to .790" with .030" chokes.

I shot it for the first time last week at clays with factory 1 1/8oz 12ga loads in reducers.

It CRUSHED the clays and I shot a 23.

Think you should be good to go grin

Best,
Mark

Mark: Nice gun. I believe your gun is a Quality 2, mine is a Quality 3, very minor differences. Anyhow, thanks for the info on the bore dia. I am thinking .790 may be the original dia. in that guns of this era were made for brass shells and the internal dia was larger to accommodate the larger wads required for the thin brass shells. Parkers of this era had bores in the .790 to .800 range. Any input from other owners of Syracuse Elsies??
