I agree - and might be the funnest girl at the dance, too. No crazy reloading issues, just run up a bunch of shells and go shoot rats at the dump or beer cans off the fence posts. Seriously.

My taste for esthetics wane after sending a couple dozen 510-535 grain bullets down range. smile

I like the idea of shooting beer cans with a 50/70 carbine, or failing that, maybe a 45/70 carbine. Is there a suitable Italian reproduction?

The Pedersoli rifles are well made and reliable. They make a Sharps carbine in 45-70 as well as a Trapdoor carbine. No 50-70 in their line though.

I've owned two of the Pedersoli Sharps and one of the Rolling Blocks all in .45-70. They are well made. I figure I put a minimum of 200#'s of lead through the last one (535 grains) at a time.(All smokeless loads) :)Interestingly the Rolling Block was the more accurate of the three.
