I am trying to help a friend figure out what make and model to consider for a first 28 ga sxs with 28" bbls. Looking for a decent gun but dont want to break the bank. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
The best hunting is between now and dark.

OK Tristar Brittany around $1000 single trigger, ejectors, screw in chokes. Huglu under $1000 single or double trigger, extractors, screw in chokes http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=249602264Did you want to spend more than that? 28 inch may be hard to find on an inexpensive sxs Mike

In addition to the above suggestions.
He might find a good Parker Reproduction in that price range, another less expensive but nice choice is the Weatherby D'Italia for under 2K.
Mine's a tale that can't be told, my freedom I hold dear.

At Cabela's I saw a Fausti DEA sidelock for around $2,400.00 that was real nice.

Under $4K, I think it's the RBL, hands down. If you can find a nice Parker Repro in the right configuration under $4K, buy it. With some serious looking, you could find a nice Spanish gun. I have seen NIB AOC/SG (Uggies) on auction sites for $2500, even before prices softened, and the standard Uggie boxlocks can be had for less than that. They are very good guns, and can hold their own with the RBL and Parker Repro.

Let's not forget an AYA 4/53 28 gauge well within target price too.
