Here's another....this bastardized junker is 5 or 6 grand over priced and was never a "best".
Quote :"W.C. Scott 12 Gauge Thumbhole Underlever Best Hammergun.
The action on this gun is very tight with a silver finish, crisp engraving, fresh strip and clean, Strong blue on the hammers and furniture, Purdey thumbhole underlever that is smooth. The barrels are 30" with 10 Gauge dimensions and permanent 12 gauge chamber liners installed by Kirk Merrington, thick barrel walls, strong barrel brown with nice contrast, 3" chambers and Briley chokes. The stock is a straight hand/ splinter with strong chequering and finish, 14 1/2" lop to a leather covered pad, 2 3/8" dah, 1 5/8" dac, 8lbs 12oz. $7500.00"

Every gun we look at is a steal, a fair price, or overpriced. Steals are rare and random, fair price and overpriced are relative, especially with higher end dealers. Price shouldn't even be a discussion point here. Pat is a dealer in higher priced guns so it's all relative. I don't know him well, but all my dealings have been pleasant and I trust him. Pat has helped me find obscure info on an obscure German gun, has willingly referred me to others who can help me find items, and has never sold me a thing. Some other "reputable" dealers won't even give a sure inspection of a gun prior to purchase. So if I pay a little more from pat and guys like him, ok. The price gripers will too once they get burned trying to save a buck.

So you're basically saying....if you are going to get burned get burned by a nice guy.

The value of a gun is what someone is willing to pay. If an individual is willing to pay the asking price, I don't see that as being "burned". If a dealer's guns are overpriced, the market will fix the problem and the prices will be adjusted... either that or the gun dealer goes out of business.

I have unfortunately bought high and sold low. I am not saying this W and M guy rips people off....I have never dealt with him. But, from my experience, most gun dealers are sort of like car dealers and if one doesn't know what he's doing, it is pretty easy to get burned and this is especially true with something real, real shiny that one wants pretty bad. I think jOe's advice to be careful is sound.
Socialism is almost the worst.

My experience with W&M has been positive. It is always possible to argue price, but reality is price is a function of what the buyer is ultimately willing to pay. That said the real test of the dealer is not his asking price but his honesty in description and his willingness to accept returns on internet purchases. W&M tests positive for both honesty of description and willingness to accept returns. They are a good outfit to do business with. Whether I agree with their prices, which I don't, does not really matter.
I have been burned in internet purchases, but never by an established dealer. To date my worse experience has been a Cabelas buy. I have been happy with W&M, Cobbs, G&H, and Champlain Arms.
