Having gone through the trials of feeding a .379" .38-72, I'd definitely opt for a .375 groove on this one. If you would like a set of Lee .38-55 dies (they work great, just no longer have a .38-55), send me a PM, you are more than welcome to them.

Steve,
I will be going with .375".
As it were I have a .38-72 but the bullet moulds I have for it will not work in a 38-55 because they are for breech seating.
Thanks for the offer on the Lee dies but I have located a set of dies.

Everything always seems to be an adventure but I think the project is done for now. I had planed on going with Clearwater Reboring (Delta Gunshop) spent a month trying to get a hold of them by phone and email. Found out the owner was on vacation, in Anchorage. When I did get to talk with him he told me the finished product had to have a .100" at the muzzle. I measured and it would have been .094" so a no go. I know he did several of these for another person so I'm a bit confused. I then talked with Jesse at J E S http://www.35caliber.com/index.html I sent my barrel down and he got it on the 15th of August, he mailed it back on the 19th and I got it a few days late. I had him do his three groove rifling and trying that out. More later.

Yesterday I had a visit from a custom gunmaker from the lower 48. He caught me working on the Winchester lever gun, how embarrassing!

Play nice, when you travel 3,000 miles to Petrov's house it's to play with bolt guns. Anyway back to the topic at hand, My friend John lent me a Modern Bond 38-55 mould that throws two different weight of bullets 235-190. If you never used a Modern Bond mould, it's one of the better designed moulds. With the help of Joe & Dan I had ammo loaded. John chambered and crowned the rifle and it seem to shoot fine with open sights. I was having trouble with the loading gate hitting the lefter but fixed that. The rifle was shooting way low and I got a new, lower front so next time I'll see if I can keep them on the target. One project down, many more to finish.

Well I got a new lower front sight and last time to the range with the 64 I put up three paper plates at fifty-yards.I shot three shots with different loads at each target. Looked at my targets and decided I would never do anything better with the open sights so I played with something else. I picked up a Lyman mould and have loaded some ammo but have not had any range time.
