On the 1935 and later NID beavertails the serial number is stamped in the wood on the web between the barrels --

Pre-1935 beavertails are shorter and bulkier than post 1935 beavertails and if the wood is serial numbered it must be inside the inletting for the forearm iron.

FWIW, I have 500188. 10ga Mag(?) frame,,has the lug cut out on the bottom.
Field grade, extractor, factory SNS trigger. F & M chokes IIRC.

I bought it as a parts gun as the rib has been D&T'd back near the breech end for ??. The receiver polished and cyanide colored and a jack-knife inletting job done to a replacement stock and homely BT forend.
The BBL is probably supposed to be 32" but IIRC it's 31 3/4" or some such off length just short of 32".

Now you know why I saw it as parts,,but I never needed to scavanged any off of it.
Suppose I should do something with it..would make a nice skeet gun for me.
Maybe a little upgrade is in order..shame to have it go to waste.

If only the gun could talk..some are kept in the garage all their life with low miles.those are the one we seek..others are daily drivers that get used to death even abused sometimes wrecked..we still want to save them..I'd say if you think it is fixable then have her fixed

I have 500606, it is a 32" barreled, double trigger, splinter forearm, with a Hawkins Pad. It is the later type NID frame with the stippled top, no dog, and no indicators. All is original with a ton of case colors, blue and nice wood and checkering, it is probably around 95%.
I did have the forearm repaired, it had split on a line following the ebony tip.
They are great goose guns and work fine for ducks as well with some 2 7/8" Bismuth hand loads.
I wouldn't want to have to carry it very far though, boat to blind is fine.

I bought a NID Magnum 10 2 triggers with ejectors from Thad Scott 30 years ago. I tried to negotiate the price over the phone and can still hear his reply: "Nah, take it or leave it at that price. It's in great condition. Most of them look like they been drug behind a truck from goose pit to goose pit all over the country."

It's funny, most of the 10 magnums I have seen have been in pretty nice shape, I dont think I have ever seen a really trashed one.
It amazes me how many of these are still around 70 or so years later if they really only made about 800 of them.
I have seen a dozen or so + whatever shows up on this site and Gunbroker.
