On the ptarmigan, I have hunted them several times. Somewhat near the bottom , table fare wise, of all the game birds, at least in my experience.
I've never even seen a ptarmigan, but thought the Willow Ptarmigan in Alaska was the same bird as Scotland's famous Red Grouse, which are supposed to be pretty good to eat. Not disputing you Daryl, but just wondering. Maybe different diets in North America?
I have tried Sharptail I shot in Saskatchewan. I was surprised by the bloody red meat, but my wife does a good job making it great eating. That said, the Huns I shoot up there are a lot easier to make a good meal of. Neither, of course, matches our local Bobwhite...Geo
