Are 12 gauge guns dead?

Since you asked

Selling my Joseph Lang back action, top lever hammer gun. Very nice scroll engraving. Recently went through at Atkin Grant and Lang.
28" sleeved steel barrels, choked IC and IMOD.Very nice rust blue.
14 1/2" LOP to a new burgendy leather pad installed by AG&L.
Stock extension nicely matched by AG&L at time of purchase.
Nice hammer guns are coming hard to find and this one is by a nice London Maker.Serial #6144, I would say around 1878.
Does have some wear but overall condition is very nice.
e-mail for pictures. mikep@fac.unc.edu
$4075.00 plus shipping.

Without seeing the gun I'd say you were at least $1500.00 over priced for a sleeved back action gun with short 2 & 1/2" chambers.

Its really hard to gauge. I have always found 12 bores completely dominate the scene, many are just above door prop in condition. The market is full of them, so cream really has to rise to the top, with exceptional condition and originality being the key

I will give my wife instructions to contact some people upon my demise. If an auction is not convenient, she will price the guns at 60% to 65% of my estimated value, mark them accordingly, and hopefully sell them all in one day. If sales are slow, it would be a sign of the times and of a poor market and maybe she would offer a discount off the marked price, but still make them available only for a day.

People with money will always buy what they want, when they want and now with our current economic climate, they will buy high end unbutchered guns even more as the sleepers pop out of the closets..............as Diggory pointed out above...........

Thanks Joe I needed the slap in the face reality check. Yes I am aware it has sleeved barrels, stock extension. But being a Lang I felt it was worth a little more. Plus the fact the gun had just been gone through by AG&L I also felt that added some value.
But I guess I was wrong on both accounts.

The gun market isn't dead but it's sliding to life support generally. Guns currently beyond our reach will come into range.

Sorry, King, but guns we have coveted because of their rarity and high quality and condition will still be out of our reach. However, wonderful crap is now within our means.

Even the gun shows around here are down. I guess too many people have found out that they are not the only place you can buy a hot dog on the weekend. Went to one a couple weeks ago and the crowd was light and the sellers were not selling much that was not black, camo or imported from China. The few doubles I saw would not have been bought by cracker barrel. One this weekend and I will walk around to see if any closet queens are there.
