mike: that is in fact quite true...
however, the high heat method of case re hardening has a long negative history of misapplication by unskilled and ignorant hands. thus, some of us who have seen and handled hundreds if not thousands of guns over the years have haunted memories of fine guns ruined. two come to mind. a parker dhe with the receiver litteraly broken into pieces. then there was the fox c grade with tiny spiderweb like cracks all over both sides of the receiver. yuck!
as for the low heat method, you and others may not like how a particular job may look, but you can rest assured that the original factory heat treating and surface hardness have not been altered and the receiver is still safe and durable.
keep it simple and keep it safe...

I don't know if Ed Landers' process is low heat or high heat and you have been unwilling to define what the maximum low heat termperature Ed Landers applies. I don't know if Ed Landers knows what he is doing. I don't know if Ed Landers did that gun. I don't know if Ed Landers exists. But if you would leave the damn things alone I might be interested in them as I know they have not been fooled with. Turned screws, honed barrels, re-case colored. Those all are alarm bells to me that someone that may or may not have know what they were doing was screwing with the gun. And the disclaimer you put in your ads reinforces my scepticism. SAFETY NOTICE: Buyer is solely responsible for determining that a used gun is safe to shoot. The firearms offered here have not been test fired but have been given a visual inspection only for auction purposes. Buyer agrees to hold seller harmless against damages, injury, or death caused by defective merchandise.

ed I am suspicious of all guns that have been screwed with. Whether sold by you or anyone else.
I repeat that we don't know what Ed Landers and you are doing to those guns when you color them. You have admitted you don't know anything about it and that you are trusting in Ed Landers expertise. Through the many threads you have started you are trying to get your story straight and that makes me sceptical. I don't know Ed Landers. He may be the best in the world and he may be average and he may be a bodger. I just don't know. But if someone hadn't been screwing with the action on that Parker then we would know that it had been screwed with LESS and that the case hardening was probably intact. If ya'll are screwing up the case hardening AND someone cleaned off your colors then we could be buying a gun with bad case hardening. But lack of re case color is a plus to me and probably most of the people that post here.
The only evidence we have that ya'll know what you are doing is that you told us you do. Some of the things you have written here indicate you don't.

Nice diversion ed.
Probably nobody on the planet knows what temperature Ed Landers takes those receivers to, including Ed Landers.
I have never seen a post here here about a bad experience with bone charcoal.
It is the gunsmith, not the process. Good gunsmith, good outcome. Bad gunsmith, bad outcome. Case hardening, case coloring, the smith is what matters.
Best,
Mike

I would like to add a little something on the practices of Ithaca Gun Comapany on "Restoring" case colors on a receiver.
I do not remember exactly where I found the information, but it comes from the factory instuction manuals to the workers in the repairs department. It stated that from time to time customers might send a gun in due to wearing of case colors. Their method of "restoring" or touching up these colors was by irregular application of a cold bluing solution with a Q-tip. You don't much more "low heat" than that.
I did not see anything mentioned about torches though.
