I've read most of the writers on this list, but Gene Hill's books are the ones I RE-read.
Some others I've enjoyed: Arichibuld Rutledge, Burton Spiller, Harold P. Sheldon, Corey Ford, Willliam G. Tapply.

For Hemingway, his book "Across the River" has some particularly good passages on duck shooting. For writers today I rate Valdene very highly.

"Hunting and Home In the Southern Heartland" by Rutledge is wonderful, also "Fireworks in the Peafield" by the same.

any new guys out there that you would recommend? i really liked the style of "hunters road" fergus. unfortunately, his follow on efforts did not measure up, for me.

A HUNTER'S ROAD is a wonderful read. It's been a good 10 -12 years since I last picked it up, might be a good time for a second reading.

any new guys out there that you would recommend? Not necessarily a recommendation (I've liked some, but not all, from these folks); here are a few writers that others have enjoyed: Tom Davis, Ted Nelson Lundrigan, Datus Proper, Laurie Morrow, Mark Volk (if you can find any).
