Franc, I think that the traditional way may be more reliable ( just my personal feeling ) as I feel we are using the grain to good effect if we heat and bend and re-heat treat the steel strip. That being said I know many people are currently milling them out of spring steel stock without problem. Perhaps it may be each to his own dependant on machining equipment available.

Hi, here are some more pictures after working the spring, the bottom line is a small amount of filing might be needed on the pin and on the spring tips. This is always the difficulty with creating the complete tempered spring and not having the shotgun to fit it to before it's tempered of course...none-the-less it will still be file-able... Cheers T PS will take out the dings and smooth before tempering to finish off..

Yes he does, and Michael Wallin makes springs just like Tony (Ballistix) makes.
