Gents, I got a deal on some # 4 shot duck shells. Is there any reason why I would have a problem shooting trap with them using a SKB 5000 shotgun, that is other than the recoil???
regards,
Max

If you have your own private trap field, no.
There will be some misses, where the target slips through the pattern.
They won't be allowed at any trap club due to noise disturbing the other shooters and the perceived safety problem of greater shot fall range.
Shoot hand thrown targets someplace safe at dusk... the muzzle flame is half the fun...

Many clubs don't allow shot size larger than 7 1/2 shot. Save them for pheasant.

Max, A lot of trap shooters have far too fragile psyches to have anyone shooting adjacent to them that might disturb their game (ie: give them an excuse for their poor shooting). I love shooting clays, but don't much bother shooting trap anymore because of such anality among the trap shooter fraternity. Seriously, if you don't want to get bitched at, use your #4's away from the trap range. Steve

The reason you aren't allowed to use shot larger than 7.5 is because larger shot flies further and it wouldn't be safe. If you have a huge trap field or a great backstop (mountain), then it's probably fine.
