MCRD San Diego 1960-- the only one of the "TURDS" in our platoon that went to the DI's hut and returned were called "The House Mouse(s)" DI's were swift enough to say mice, and of course, the old "F" modifier was heard loud, clear and frequently. We loved to attend ol Chaplain Charlie's Sunday "Magic show" because it was the only hour of the whole freakin' week (19 weeks Boot back then)the D.I.'s couldn't mess with us--I love music, used to whistle back in HS a bit- second Sunday of Boot- head calls- standin' extra close to the razor- not a "Smokey bear cover" in sight- I started to whistle- the really "bad cop" D.I. snuck up behind and screamed into my right ear-- "Only two things whistle in my Corps- *&^%bird- queers and swabbies- which the &^%$ one are you, sweetheart?" I haven't whistled since, and don't hear so well out of that ear- 51 years later- Lock and Load!!!
