Did the Belgiums use a 'crown' ?

That's twist steel for sure just not London Fine Twist. If that gun were mine and I had intentions on using it...I'd chop her off to about 30 inches.

Re. London Fine Twist. Besides Parker's it was common name for a lot of twist steels for English trade. London Twist or London Fine Twist...
Seems to me it's just another Belgian gun made for the grey market.

Would you please ask your Gunsmith dad what browning formula he used. I brown barrels also, but have not been able to get that color that he finished with. Beautiful.

there is several initials with a crown over it
there is an N, Z, X

the ELG has a star under it,
and the EL in cursive

In the photo place there is a magnifying glass that will blow up the photos to see it better ,

What angle of the hammers would you need ?
Thanks for all the help
and homless Joe , sorry I have several SxS with short barrels mantons and such to shoot so I will keep the barrels at 42" but I do plan on shooting it this year at state , Might put a couple of jug chokes in it to tighten it up a bit though ,
I will ask what he is using for browning also

Again thanks for the input!

Well, there does not appear to be a recognizable trademark. From your confirmation of the proof marks, it was proofed between 1853 and 1877.

Geno is of course correct. This was meant for the English or American market.

Those hammers are very unique! I am sure that they were not a common item, even then. As others have stated, they are the key to the maker. I tried EJ Blackely, but it appears their site has moved.

You might try Alan Trigger. He owns one of the better Belgium sites for proof marks. Concentrate on the hammers with him. http://www.littlegun.be/mise%20a%20jour/a%20fiche%20mail.htm
