ed,

Tony, the original poster on this thread, has been very kind and generous in sharing his knowledge and experience with this board. He is also recovering from some tough medical issues.

I find it in very poor taste that you would make fun of him and his post like this.

Just my 2 cents. God bless you Tony, get well soon.

Dan

cgs: why not let him be the judge of that...after all being english, he may especially enjoy the humor and good cheer intended with my comparison of his video to the witches scene in Macbeth...obviously, you don't.

Your opinion of those that perform true color casehardening is well known, I don't think the meaning of your post was all that ambiguous.

Indeed, Tony can reach his own conclusions.

CGS: thank you for fighting my corner. I didn't take offence really. I didn't really take it as anyhting other than a bit of light fun and not a dig at me. More the black art of CCH and the mystery surrounding it.

All in all, thanks to all for the comments,CGS thanks for looking after me and responding as such. smile It's fine.

Regards,
Tony

I understand from people who have seen the Marlin film of Colour Case Hardening that it contains a number of factual errors. Such as there being no top on the crucible when it is put into and withdrawn from the furnace. Also the the very close proximity of the operators hand to the supposedly red hot crucible. (already mentioned here). It has been suggested that the film was made to be deliberately misleading in order to foil competitors seeking to emulate Marlins methods and colours.

Yep, has to be air tight for sure and the way he turns the thing upside down and just poors the contents into the water will introduce way too much oxygen to the process..so I can see it's nonsense now that you point it out. smile

Tony,

Have you read this Forum on the Marlin Collectors Website:-

http://www.marlin-collectors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=3732

It's a 24 page long Forum topic on CC hardening. It's very well worth a read. A lot of very good tips in it, and detailed descriptions on how JimD got the colours he shows.
