The new commissioner of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Chandler Woodcock, has said relative to hunting on Sunday "over my dead body" (or words to that effect). He's wrong - it would mean a lot more bird hunters able to make a weekend trip and spend their money in the camps, stores and such, but he's the commissioner.
Commissioner Woodcock is uniformly recognized as an outdoorsman. An anonymous warden was quoted as saying "the commissioner can [fly] cast" in a tone of impressed almost-awe. He also could have won the governorship 8 years ago, if he hadn't obeyed his long-standing family tradition and gone deer hunting the first day of the season, i.e., the Saturday before Election Day, instead of campaigning.
