I should probably hit Cody somewhere along the way to or from.

You Montanans, how a bout some suggestions of where to go in you great state.

Jerry

PS, I just got to get out of CA, away from work and children for a break, wife coming along.

Definitely go to the firearms museum in Cody - my wife was somewhat PO'd that I wanted to spend most of a day in a firearms museum - until she discovered on our arrival that the Whitney Museum of Western art was in the same building - saved my day.

Absolutely. Go to the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody and spend all day in it. Very interesting and worthwhile visit.

Jerry,
I did my geological summer field camp in Red Lodge MT and I have to recomend Route 212 between Red Lodge and Cooke City is one of the most beautifully senic routes in Montana, nearly all above 10,000' elevation.

I recently got back from the Nimrod Classic/Uncle Dan Lefever Cup near Bozeman. The Madison, Jefferson, and Missouri rivers were all within 2 inches of the banks. Don't even think about the Lewis and Clark Caverns unless you have the knees of a 25 year old and are less than 5"5'' tall. I could just barely walk when I got done- the knees are shot.

Like Rockdoc, my wife and I drove from Cooke City Montana to Cody at night. She was terrified. I mentioned that to the motel owner in Cody the next morning. He said he WOULD NOT drive that road at night. During the day, one of the most gorgeous drives you'll ever encounter.

I think the WINCHESTER COLLECTORS gun show will be at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody this weekend. Another reason to go there.

Thanks Guys, Keep the suggestions coming.

I have been to Cody years ago with my kids... didn't get to spend enough time there. My wife is okay with it.

Looking forward to it. The 212 drive sound great.

Do the Red Lodge to Cook City drive! Beautiful landscapes. Also look out for Mnt Goats when you get up on the pass. If you like fly fishing there is some great fishing along that drive. Also Yellowstone is about half an hour from Cook City.

Seconding Rockdoc's suggestion.

The Lamar Valley in Yellowstone (on Hwy 212) is superb. Hwy 296 (between Cody and 212) is also a fantastic drive.
