I think that might be a Laurona, a Spanish shotgun. They were an inexpensive gun, an entry level SXS. If 70mm is stamped on the barrel flats it should be fine to use with modern 2 3/4" shells. I'm not clear on "if they were a Greener crossbolt? What do you mean by that, I'm curious. A pic or two would help. Mike

According to the Blue Book, the cheapest model Laurona sxs (Model 11) did have a Greener crossbolt. More expensive models used Purdey bolting.

IMO, Lauronas are a bargain. I owned the Sears model and the workmanship and material I would put on par with Ugartechea 30s or the older lower end Aya boxlocks. BTW, they also made some pretty nice sidelocks, like the 801 and 802. Here's an 802 http://www.gunsamerica.com/977716762/Gun...S_20_GAUGE.htm#

Laurona also made the seldom-seen Winchester Model 22 sxs, which is collectible for Big Red W fans simply because it's pretty rare and you'd have to have one if you wanted an example of every Winchester-branded sxs.

Here's my 16ga. Laurona I bought last year. $280 all in. Greener cross bolt, double underlug. 2 3/4", 28" barrels. Made in 1962 (pre sears). I opened it up to sk1 and sk2+ as it was originally choked very full. It is my back up grouse gun. http://s984.photobucket.com/albums/ae325/Dolapsch/Laurona/ Don.
Life is too short to have a 'hate on' for so many things or people. Isn't it?

They are strong enough that I built a double rifle in calibre .303 British on a 20 gauge Laurona a few years ago. It is still tight and on the face after 1000's of rounds through it. The Laurona boxlocks have double Purdey-style underbites, a Greener-style crossbolt, a breech re-inforce, disc-set stikers, and quite often they have side clips as well. Although, as noted above, they are an entry-level gun, both they and the Zabalas are a lot of gun for the money.

The first shotgun I ever owned (and the last if it comes down to it) is a Laurona over and under my dad gave me when I was 11. It has double single triggers, 26 inch barrels, and shoots where I am looking. I have fired thousands of rounds through it without porblem, but recently I noticed the top lever was a little proud of the action. While it is apart to be corrected I am having the action blacked. I guess it is "entry level," but I can't imagine more gun for the money. CHAZ
