Pardon my ignorance.

What is a game rib on a SxS? What other types are there? Most of the ones I've seen have been concave ribs.

Thanks!

A simple rib, not fancy, not very wide, often not ventilated and certainly not raised as for a trap gun.

The game rib is usually considered to be a concave, low set (even swamped), and often not patterened for reflection prevention. Raised ribs set higher and usually have a texture on the top surface; they come in a range of widths. The Churchill rib is raised and tapered in the horizontal plane from the breech to the muzzle (supposed to create an optical illusion of longer sighting radius, leading to more precise aiming). Raised ribs can be solid or ventilated. Some ribs have been made adjustable in height and vertical taper.

Mostly, this is about personal choice with a dash of styling and a pinch of utility..

BTW,
Having pulled a few ribs now, I can say so called "solid ribs" are sometimes hollow channels. Some if not all the swamped ribs are indeed truly solid.

Established gun terminology is sometimes misleading...to me at least. For example, "sleeving" a shotgun is not what a machinist would ever think of calling chopping off the barrels of a gun, boring out the chambers, and turning new tubes to fit in. I would have called it re-tubing or something. "Sleeving" makes me think of boring out something and pressing in a "sleeve". So, since the term "sleeving" was taken already, Teague had to use the term "lining" or "relining".
