Just my non-informed opinion, but if you could get it at a bargain price (i.e., under $1k), and if the chokes are suitable for you, and if you plan on it being a shooter and not a collector piece, then why are the barrels such a big deal? Unless of course, the pitting is also giving you cold feet, which I could understand. Beautiful and unique gun though.

The pitting is not too deep so here are my thoughts. Hone the .735 barrel just to make sure the pitting is at least rounded as supposed to sharp. Leave that choke at .23. Backbore the right barrel from .729 to .735 to get rid of all the pitting in that barrel and have .006 choke. Ask Ken Hurst to checker and improve the solder between the muzzles. Renew the stock finish and change the white line pad. Then have fun! Sounds like a plan.
I doubt the store will move on the price based on previous experience. I will still try, though.

From GermanGuns.com the following:
. As an interesting sidelight, I have seen more than one German double rifle advertised that bore crown-over-W marks on the underside of the barrels. A closer inspection revealed that their rifled barrels had been sleeved into the shotgun barrels or block and they were in no way original, or perhaps even safe. Caveat emptor!

Scrub the bores with oil soaked fairly coarse emery cloth and save the money you are planning on spending on all this bore honing. The pits will disappear as well as with a two thousandth hone job that will cost a bunch if you don't do it yourself. Don't nickel and dime yourself into an expensive gun. You don't need .006 of choke. Cylinder and modified, everyone's dream gun.

Eightbore, Thanks for taking the time to suggest a good solution for the bores. Would you wrap it around a bore brush on a rod and chuck it in the drill?
