I drove 35 miles down to Kentucky Saturday where cigarettes sell at $25.00/ carton. They are up to around $44.00 here in Ohio. So for an hour's drive I save about $200.00. I bought my gas down there, too. If Ohio doesn't want my money that is OK by me. I wish I had bought gold several years ago when everyone was saying to buy it. So, as far as lead is concerned I just cut back on my shooting. Too cold to shoot anyway. Now that I am retired I just sit in front of the TV, eat, smoke and drink pop and coffee. Thank God for satellite dishes. And I just blame all my problems on the illegal aliens.

Continuing OT on nicotine, Goodman and Gilman the pharmacology "bible" lists the addictive drugs in order of their "Addictiveness". The top drug is, as expected, heroin/morphine, number 2 is coccaine, 3 is nicotine. Back on topic, my wholesale suppliers are citing shipping costs as another reason for the increase. Best, Dr. Bill

When gas was $3.00 plus, some of my suppliers charged a fuel surcharge on deliveries. Now that it is $2.00 I still have a few suppliers that throw it in the invoice to see if they can get away with it. I refuse to pay it now. Not much you can do about it if they insist.
So many guns, so little time!

The high federal taxes on ammo were put in place in 1937 to fund land purchases for wildlife and public hunting. The law was ammended in 1970 to allow the funds to support public shooting ranges and hunter safety courses.
Yes there are some local efforts to tax hand gun ammo but the thought that the price hikes were seeing are secret gun control efforts are just conspiracy thoery for the guys that wear aluminum foil hats.

It is not likely that you will see any type of 100% oncrease right now. We are coming into the off season for most ammo sales. Hunting seasons are winding down and the next opening day is over six months away. Buyers are not in the market for more shells so a drastic price increase does not make sense. A few will panic buy but most will wait and shop for sales or off brand imports. Why worry about shell for next year when you just finished this year?
The only year round or more like Spring-Summer market sales that ammo makers have right now are clay target shooters. A large percentage of them reload already. New shell sales for registered shooting still exist but most shooters shoot maybe 4-5,000 shells a year in compition. SHooters who do not reload just buy on price point as a rule so import shells will become even a greater share of the market.
20 flats of shells for one shooter is a decent sale but not near what volume Dove shooting is to shell makers. Remington use to say that the first day of Dove season generated more shell sales than Skeet and Trap did all year long.
Buy reloading supplies when ever you see them at a decent price. Look for them in places that you may have forgot about. Do you have a old hunting or shooting buddy who has gotten out of shooting. Chances are he has components left that he will sell for very reasonable prices just ot get rid of them.
I just bought 2,000 16 AA wads for 3.00 a bag from an old hunting buddy. He has quit hunting and had them left in his garage. I saw them and asked if he wanted to sell them. He had a sales slip for them for $12.00 a thousand and just wanted his money out of them. Happy to help out. Bought the rest of his old shot, powder, primers and hulls for a very small amount. Found a home for his MEC 600JR. He has a cleaner garage and I have a few more componets to use. We are both happy but not as happy as his wife to get rid of stuff she had no clue how to dispose of if he died.
Bargins are where you find them. Now if he would just sell me his 16 AE Fox to go with those shells. Ought to be worth what he paid for it 50 years ago. After all he has used it hunting for years. It is an old gun now. Still looks great for its age. Hummmmm. Wonder if he would take $500.00 for it? That has to be twice what he paid for it. Got to go, need to make a call....

I'm sitting here reading this thread. Smoking my cigar, just had a shot of my 10 year old whiskey, thinking about the L C Smith field grade I just bought yesterday. Took the old dog and the new ten week old pup(lab, pointer cross) out for a walk behind my house in the spruce tamarack swamp. The little pup fought to keep up with the old lab, but he did it. Then he upset me, didn't want to come in. So I guess I'm depressed. Can't wait for the next grouse season.I'll stay depressed untill next september.

I don't know if the prices will go up 100% or not. But this sure is a funny thread so I'm enjoying it regardless of which way the wind blows.

As a previous store owner, I can tell you the only thing the increase in cigs did was increase the theft of these items..can we expect the same with shells/bullets? Hey I smoke cigars..and I am not depressed!

See the disclaimer on page 7 of the Cabela's 2007 'Shooting and Reloading Supplies' Catalog for their comments on the price increases.
Always looking for small bore Francotte SxS shotguns.
