We've had quite a few threads on here regarding the doubles built by Miroku. Usually its been about their boxlocks but the sidelocks have been the spoken about from time to time.

Well, I was finally able to locate one. Its a Model F and its a 12-bore with 28" bbls choke Cyl./Full and it weighs 6 1/2 lbs. I paid $1450 for it.

I may have the gun restocked (depends on how well I shoot it). And I'll may have the case colors redone as well.

Whatcha yall think?

I think you made a great purchase. The Browning sidelocks, also by Miroku, go for a lot more, at least in 20 ga. Now you have been infected by the re-doing bug which can result in the expenditure of large amounts of money thta you will never recover.

"Buxton's Guide" (from 1963) shows a Miroku Model 530 sidelock with more engraving than that one. My hunting partner owned a pre-Browning Miroku sidelock a few years back. Extractor gun. The only other one I've ever seen was a 12ga at the KC Gun Show over 10 years ago. Probably should have bought that one, for half the price of a BSS Sidelock, but I was not looking for a 12 at the time.

Adam,

Best case; you may wish to consider having the stock bent &/or twisted. You would need a good gunsmith/fitter to make an evaluation for you about that, but before I got all excited about changing anything, I suggest that you spend the money & time to find out how it may work for you in its present form. That translates to a minimum of a flat of cartridges & two is better, at whatever target game(s)you enjoy. Money spent to re-case color is not only a waste, as Joe says, but opens the door for problems that DO NOT exist at present, w/the proviso that it works now.

You have found, from the pics supplied anyway, a pristine example of the Japanese gun makers' art w/correct everything. Don't screw with it; beyond a tweak to the dimensions, via reasonable bending & then only if necessary.

You did well on your purchase, IMHO.

Kind regards, tw

Nice Gun Adam, & a nice price as well.
If it were mine (I'd buy two @ that price mate smile I would not monkey
with the Case Colors.Things can get ugly...& why??
Are you sure it was CC'd to start with?
I'd leave it as it is ...a Bloody good deal!!!!
Get the stock bent to fit you & save a bundle, even if the grain is a bit plain & you have a grand "Modern" SLE you can be proud of, n to shoot factory ammo through..n all for 1500...very cool
It is what it is
nice deal

That one will go well with the high grade boxlock you bought a few monthe ago. Personally, I wouldn't spring for the re-case color, but if a new stock makes it fit you better go for it. you seem to have a great eye for nice guns...Geo

Thanks for the input, guys. As far a color casing goes... the gun was color cased originally but the colors are almost gone completely. I like the look of worn color but I figured if I got the gun restocked, some new fresh colors would be nice. Please correct me if I am wrong but I thought that if the action is annealed before re-hardening, no problem should occur (like warping metal, etc). Is that incorrect?

There is a 1st class stockmaker 100 miles from me. He can bend the stock if needed. We'll see how well I shoot it first.

George,

I sold the 20ga I bought last year (regrettably so). But I hope to be buying another fairly soon. We'll shall see. I still have the 12ga. though. Both are marked "B.C. My Luck".

The 12ga Model L-II.

The 20ga Model KE

The 2 together in Albany GA.
