Roy, I appreciate your comments about jOe and completely agree. I get a little bothered sometimes when he lays the "truth" on some unsuspecting newbie inquiring about his beloved grandads hardware store gun, he's often brutally honest. As far as the dark wood is concerned, try the acetone soak/Tru-Oil refinish, it's easy to do and you'll be glad you did, the wood will be beautiful (even jOe may like it). Steve

Every Greener gun got his own grade number. What did Graeme Greener said about it? I guess it's something around 45-50 guinas at the time.

This is an 1880 Melbourne Exposition A&D action Greener. Beautiful engraving with even full length rib engraved. It will be in the New Greener Book expected in September. [img:left] [/img]

As usual, HomelessjOe has little of value to offer to the conversation. If anyone has his full legal name and address, send it off to me. I'm bored and feeling litigious. Libel and slander are popular topics these days and if the moderators won't deal with this knuckle head, I'll make a few bucks off of his big mouth if only I could find out who he is.

There is a best Greener on Gunbroker, a 50 guinea gun, according to the Greener letter that is also featured on the page. It looks like Aussie's gun so far as I can tell. It is listed in the letter from Greener as a No 1 Grade (IIRC). There was one higher grade, the "Imperial" grade, again IIRC that sold for 60 guineas. Look at it and read the letter. Don't know how much a guinea is, but it sounds expensive. Ibelieve this is the link. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=234090684 Edit: No, that's not the one I was looking at. I guess that one with the letter expired. It was made for an agent in Paris, no final user known.

Ole jOe has posted his name here many times. Like his "computer screen persona" or not, he's not a guy to hide behind an anonymous nom de net...Geo

He may not hide behind his screen name but our village idiot is rather obnoxious. For some reason he feels the need to attack anybody he sees fit on here and is allowed to do it time and time again.
All I can say is jOe must have some pictures of the moderators with a goat in a compromising position. I cannot see how he has been allowed to remain here as long as he has.

A guinea was 1/1/- or one pound and one shilling; a pound in those days was a gold coin - a sovereign - weighing near enough 1/4oz. At today's prices that makes one guinea about $375. The Melbourne exhibition building still stands, and still gets used for exhibitions... There's bests, and there's bests, but I expect Joe knows and understands that... RG
