Hello All,

I am the proud new owner of a fine old Farquharson rifle marked "J Burrow Maker 116 Fishergate Preston" It is chambered in 375 flanged Nitro Express 2 1/2, has tang safety, Krupp steel barrel.

I have ordered "British Single Shot Rifles v3" but I'm an impatient fella.....

What can you tell me?

Thanks

Mark

I can not add much to what was posted on NE, but I will say it looks to be a nice clean gun that appears un-messed with and in a nice configuration and cartridge. Welcome to the world of British single shot rifles.

Winfer's book will give you all the detail you'll need. I believe this is what he referes to as the 3 B Action (pg.36-37). The three screws in the side of the action identify it as the # B Action. Winfer's book makes no mention of J Burrow.

... but in Nigel Brown's British Gunmakers Vol.2, there is a short entry that reads, "JAMES BURROW LTD., 117 Fishergate c.1917 (pg.184). This date would agree with the nitro proofs on the barrel.

I agree with the comments above. You have a fantastic rifle in original condition. As for British single shot rifles, "It starts with an interest, turns to passion, then migrates to obsession” . Congratulations ...

In addition to Wal's book, I hope you have a copy of Jonathon Kirton's book by the same publisher. That is a very nice Farquharson.

I have dies, brass and bullets on thier way to me (yes I've heard of the pending postal strike)

Found some vintage ammo locally, and some reading material just arrived.
