This is getting way off Walter's original post. I have Fox guns in my collection that were shipped as late as 1938 that don't have the chamber length marking on the left barrel, but all those I have that shipped in 1939 and later do.
That business of rechambering to 2 3/4 inch and proof testing at owner's risk before any repairs would be done is from Fox repairs/parts lists I got from Savage in 1966 and 1968. Don't know when they actually started that practice. Also, between 1966 and 1968 they ran out of Fox-Kautzky single selective trigger parts.
