I often visit P-burgh as my daughter teaches and of course lives there. I will give you a shout when next there and maybe we can do lunch or something.

I believe the Limeys consider a POW to be the same as we do over "across the pond"- and as we bailed their sorry arses out of WW1 and WW11 (screw Neville C. and his "peace in our time fairy tale" a prisoner of war- as Memorial Day approaches, let's thank all our Vets- all the men who died to keep America the Land of the Free- and where we can openly discuss Ithacas and other artifacts of a "gentler time"-- Very nice Nitro- a true "using gun" like a Stevens 311- and in factory 'as new" condition too!

Can you use modern loads in these guns, I have one and do use modern loads but would appreciate someone with better knowledge to confirm safe use of nitro specials and modern loads. The serial number on my 12 ga is 345831 it says Lefever Nitro Special on 1 barrel and Lefevor Arms Branch Ithaca Gun Co. Inc.Ithaca NY on other barrel. Barrels are marked on right +4 and left +2 Also marked LLH on the barrel.Has a flying goose on ea side of receiver. I also have a nice 16 ga which I think is a Flues serial number 356012 Barrels marked 4 and 4, on right barrel is marked smokeless powder steel, and left barrel is marked Made in USA. Along with the serial number on the forend is the letter S. The receiver has a setter on ea. side and Ithaca Gun Co. Ithaca N.Y.On receiver flats? if that is what its called was the number 16 with a S over it. I can take pictures of these if anyone wants to see them or post them but I don't know how to post them but can email to someone. I think I have used both with modern shells but really wonder if I should. both guns are in very nice condition.

I'm pretty sure some of the Nitros are short-chambered. They're built tough, but pressures went up when the move was made from 2 1/2, 2 9/16 and 2 5/8 to 2 3/4" shells. I don't know how long it would take to shoot a Nitro loose with heavy, high pressure loads, but it's always better to err on the safe side.
RWTF's history is a bit skewed. Both the Brits and the French had done a whole lot of dying before we got into WWI. Less so in WWII. But in WWII, although we played a much more significant role in terms of our manpower commitment, the Brits (and the Russians) needed our production capacity as much as they did our young men.

in your second pic I can see the red felt on the other side through the gap @ the angle of frame..standing breech/flats area.
Were they made that way or what?
