Would the front and mid bead on this gun more likely be made of ivory or brass?

Unless ordered otherwise, the gun would have had a single brass front bead. On early guns as yours, when optional front and mid-beads were ordered they were most often double ivory beads; and, if you are asking for an opinion as what to use on this high-grade LeFever, I would suggest the installation of ivory beads. And congratulations on your fine LeFever!

...so if I were to replace these beads what would be the appropriate bead size and where would you recommend some one purchase? I should mention, IMO, I'm not real fond of the Galazan/Brownell "plastic looking" ivory beads.
I understand there is a dealer in England offering a better quality ivory bead, but I can't recall his name...anyone?
Or, what's your favorite recipe to "age" these new ivory beads? How long did it take?

Utah, there are some gunsmiths that make their own ivory beads. Bill Schwarz is one that comes to mind. Bobby

My CE is a 1900 gun and has original twin ivory beads, the front one is rather large in diameter probably close to 1/8"

The taste of poor quality lingers long after the cheap price is forgotten.........

During these years, Lefever appealed to a more customized market. Almost a carriage trade, but not in the english sense. It would be very difficult to tell exactly what bead was used on this gun. The ones I have seen have all been brass. But that may just be my limited exposure. Here is an ad from 1909: A page out of the 1904-05 catalog: With all the options listed in the various catalogs, I have never seen one mention the bead. But again, maybe I just missed it. Pete
