I just have to comment on the 28ga. This the guage I decided to start my grandson on. His first one at age 11 was an SKB 500 26" with skeet chokes as it tuned out they were a mite tighter than that maybe WS-2. Any way after 2 sessions with station 1&7 only he shot his first complete round of skeet and turned in an 18. Sure shamed my friend that talked him into shooting with him to give him my grandson a few pointers. (he shot a 16). A few weeks later he went to a kids only pheasant shoot, over a pointer. The first one up he smoked but the comotion stirred a second bird. The gentlemen who was running the shoot was just starting to yell don't shoot as he shot and clobbered the bird at about 30 yards. 2 shots 2 birds.
That season he got a nice brace of chuckers 2 shots 2 birds. The same with ducks only more shots and more birds.
But the best was the pigeon shoot (box birds) He was advised by the old timers do not expect to kill much with that short barrelled open choke but go for it anyway. He did miss the first 2 he was just to careful. The next 2 he killed but they were out of the ring. Then I said to him Liam smoke those suckers as soon as you can see their heads out of the box! Well the next 6 were just that, a cloud of feathers. My long time friends were now very interested in that gun and what sort of shells he was using. Of course I was told bring him to shoot for me as he sure does it better. Oh well I'll take that what proud grandpa wouldn't.
One of these days I'll tell you about the first time he pulled the trigger on a rifle.
Regards
John Mc

I would say this about the 28 ga: It's a wonderful little gauge that can do pretty much whatever the 20 can do, within a range of about 35-40 yards, excluding waterfowl, and possibly wild pheasants. Not to say you can't take waterfowl or wild phez with it (I have taken pheasant, and know a few who regularly take both ducks and geese with it), but that the 20 has a decided advantage, IMHO. I personally have no interest in shooting waterfowl, and have decided to use "more gun" on wild phez. It works wonders on preserve phez & chukar, as well as dove & quail.

However, there is one thing the 28 can do (not all of them do!) that a 20 can't, and that is carry lighter than a 20 ga. To the gent who can't shoot an under-6 lb. gun well, the 20 is indeed a wise choice. I, on the other hand, shoot my 5.4 lb 20 ga very well, and would love a 5 lb. or so 28 ga. I know they are out there, I just haven't been able to drop the $3500 it would take to get one.

I agree with the philosophy that if you're going to carry a 20 ga sized gun, you might as well take the advantages of the 20 ga round, too.

Having said all of this, if I had to choose one and forego the other, I would choose the 20 ga, simply because of ammo availability and price (I don't reload). Fortunately, I don't have to choose and can shoot whichever has my fancy at the moment!

so far It seems a nice little gun I have enough conifedence in it know to try it in a 100 target event next weekend
